The Pakistan Rice Exporters delegation is searching the opportunities to increase exports to the Saudi market.

of Asharqia Chamber Abdulaziz bin Muhammed Al Uthman stressed the importance of
trade relations between the Kingdom and Pakistan.

Uthman said in a meeting of the delegation of the Pakistani Rice Exporters
organized by Asharqia Chamber on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 chaired by Shahjhan
Malik, Vicar of the federation, and the presence of the Secretary General of
the Chamber Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah Al Wabel and the Chairman of the Saudi mutal
Chamber Mian Mahmoud that the Kingdom is a major importer of Pakistani rice, The
annual value of Saudi imports of various types of Pakistani rice is up to 350
million riyals in 2015, pointing the chances of increasing the exports of
Pakistani rice to the Saudi market, where the total consumption of rice from
the Kingdom about 5.8 billion riyals Saudi for the same period.
For
his part, Malik focused on the quality of Pakistani rice, saying that basmati
rice is good quality and is well known throughout the world. This good reputation
contributed to Pakistan average annual production of basmati rice about 2
million tons, of which more than 50,000 tons were exported to Saudi
Arabia. The total rice production in Pakistan is more than 6.5 million tons per
year, with the export value of one ton of Pakistani basmati rice estimated at $
1,000.
"Pakistan
has started to upgrade the rice processing plants significantly to improve its
quality and productivity," he said. "Many new rice processing plants
have emerged over the past five years with investments of more than $ 100
million.
He
pointed that the amount of the mutual trade between the two countries is up to
about 12.2 billion riyals in the year 2015, while the value of Saudi imports
from Pakistan about 2.1 billion riyals, and the value of exports to Pakistan
about 10.1 billion riyals, saying that the delegation represents the major rice
producers and exporters in line with the food security program of the Kingdom, which is focused on in
the framework of the Saudi vision 2030.
